Location

The conference will take place at the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal, one of the most remarkable concert halls and conference centres in Europe (Historic Conference Centres of Europe). There is nowhere else quite like it in Germany.

It was built in 1900 in the magnificent, opulent style characteristic of the period of Emperor William II and reopened in 1995 after masterly renovation, with the result that its original splendour and unique acoustics are now combined with state-of-the-art technical equipment.

University

The meeting is organized by the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. The university was founded in 1972 as an amalgamated university. Today it is a modern university with a diverse portfolio of courses. There are about 15.000 students and 1300 employees at the university.

Wuppertal

Wuppertal is located close to the Ruhr area, in the western part of Germany. Today many international market leaders of different lines of business, for example Bayer, Vorwerk or Delphi run a branch in Wuppertal. Especially the fields of automotive, health care, metalwork and product development are the strength of the city.

With its many parks and wooded areas, and its good transport connections, the city of Wuppertal offers a young cultural scene with a variety of sports and leisure facilities, a wide range of accommodation, and affordable living cost.

The characteristic of Wuppertal is the sky train. Since the year 1900 it is an important public transport for the city. About 75.000 people travel by sky train every day. It covers a distance of 13,3 kilometer and takes about 35 minutes from terminus to terminus.

50 percent of the area of Wuppertal is used for agriculture, parks and forests. The Hardt-park, the Vorwerkpark, the park at Nützenberg and the one in Barmen are good places for relaxing or sport activities. All the parks are free of charge.

The zoo of Wuppertal has about 450 animal species and 4500 animals. The zoo is one of the most attractive zoos of the world regarding its scenery.

Wuppertal is also famous for its culture, e.g., the von-der-Heydt-museum, the opera and the dance theater “Pina Bausch”. The von-der-Heydt-museum has a great art collection with works of Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and other famous artist. The museum is situated in the center of Wuppertal-Elberfeld.
